Restaurant/places to eat in Hotel Koryu

Really enjoyed our stay in the hotel; staff were really friendly and helpful. Range of food for breakfast and dinner was decent also - some items were better than others but overall great. Staff also gave us a complimentary hot spring booking for our trip, which we really appreciated. Onsen was also really nice. Hotel has a table tennis room, karaoke room, indoor and outdoor onsen, and a comic book library/room. Complimentary mini bar at the lobby also had a good range of items!

A cost efficient way of staying at a Japanese style tatami accommodation. There were a lot of small touches such as complimentary japanese snacks and candy on arrival, free coffee, a manga club onsite (new), private bath that we opted in and booked before arrival (3000yen), cosy room with futon beds and lovely view of Lake Kawaguchi. Yukatas and slippers were provided. There was a free shuttle van that picked us up from Kawaguchiko station (from 3pm to 5pm - you go to the tourist centre from the station and tell them to call hotel directly). It was a 5 to 6 min drive. Convenient if you have lots of bags. Then in morning, 8am to 10am, you can go to station via the van (reservations are required due to limited seats). The hotel is a bit dated but its the style of it. Private bath on L3 (reservations required) was hot and relaxing! We also used the table tennis area and killed time there along with borrowing manga from the manga club. Souvenir shop near reception and with a vending machine plus free amenities. Coin laundry next to public bath on L1. There was a kids zone area too and karaoke (reservations required). Breakfast and dinner with a variety of western and japanese options and free unlimited local sake, beer and soft drinks etc and dessert. There are last entries for both meals so keep note. Stayed for 2 nights and same buffet food but they gave us special service like steak and salmon salad as a bonus.

View (from property/room) in Hotel Koryu

The room was nice and comfortable with a view of the lake just across the street. There were indoor and open air baths to choose from, and also a private bath for reservation at a reasonable price. There was good variety for the dinner provided. Bus stop was also just across the street for easy access to nearby places of interest. Easy to get to kawaguchiko station.

The check in process easy and welcoming. They gave us lolly bags to fill up as many treats from the selection of Japanese treats to try. Collect all you need (Yukata, bathroom supplies- toothpaste, hair brush etc) to take to your room. Small gift shop. The huge MANGA LIBRARY is next level amazing. My boys were thrilled with this. We didn't use the inhouse onsen. Room very spacious- traditional ryokan. Toilet separate from bathroom. Kids happy with futon on the floor. We had single beds that fold into the wall. Dinner buffet in house was fantastic. Superb choice of Japanese cuisine. Kids loved the automatic pancake machine and ate endless sashimi. They have all you can drink soda, wine, sake and premix. Great seeing people in their slippers and yukata at dinner. Breakfast both traditional and western offereings too. Easy access to walk the lake and to town. The Ropeway (cableway) is a short walk and we were blessed with perfect views of Mt Fuji from the observation top.

Food in Hotel Koryu

A lovely hotel that I would love to visit again! The top highlight of this hotel for me was the free manga cafe. It was such an amazingly curated space with lots of cozy areas to read or draw. Huge windows made the whole room very bright with a lovely view of the lake as well. The selection of manga, magazines, and art books itself was also very impressive, with lots of titles in English too! I wanted to stay another day just to hang out in the manga cafe longer. Highly recommended if you enjoy manga. The room was comfortable with a beautiful view of the lake. There was a dining table style kotatsu set up next to the window which made for a cozy viewing experience, especially since it happened to be quite cold the weekend I visited. I had a room with futons, but the pad was very thick and very comfortable. The onsen selection featured three different baths including the outdoor garden bath, the outdoor lake view bath, and the indoor bath. There is also a private bath, but it was closed for renovation during my visit. Despite that, no one happened to be using the onsen at the same time as me during my stay, so it almost felt like a private bath anyway. The meals featured many different food selections and were quite tasty. I liked trying the local sake and wines as well, which were also all you can drink (always a plus in my book). There were also free snacks and beverages right from check in, so we were able to get something in our stomachs after the long bus ride from Tokyo while waiting for dinner. There was also free karaoke which was super fun as well. We only stayed one night, but we arrived right at 3pm to check in and then pretty much enjoyed the facilities the whole day until check out the next morning. Unfortunately Fuji was completely covered in clouds the days we were in town, but despite that we still had an amazing weekend relaxing in this hotel! If we find ourselves coming back to try to see Fuji again, we'll definitely stay here again.

Liked the location, great views of the lake, and relatively quiet, but still close to everything. Great service and communication with the staff, lots of interesting free snacks during the day. Public bath facilities are excellent (apart from rest areas). Manga library space was awesome.

Lake view in Hotel Koryu

This ryokan is a budget friendly hotel if you’re looking for an onsen experience without breaking the bank. The food (both breakfast and keiseki dinner) were pretty good and satisfying, but you must prebook at least a day in advance. Breakfast and dinner are served in the communal dining hall here instead of your room. The highlight of my stay here was enjoying the onsens at the hotel, one overlooks the lake/mountain (2nd fl) and another is outdoors with a small garden view (1st fl). The bath areas were really clean and well kept. The onsens were empty when I was there in April (Thurs-Fri), so I was able to enjoy it all to myself! The hotel is about a 15-min walk from Kawaguichiko Station but there is a free hotel shuttle to and from Kawaguchiko Station. The shuttle must be prebooked at the reception desk and limited to the pre-specified time slots. The staff was super nice and friendly. We were provided all the necessary information at check-in. My family and I stayed in a traditional room with tatami beds. The room was equipped with basic amenities as well as a water warmer for tea and a small fridge. Given the price, don’t expect the bells and whistles of a luxury ryokan. If you are okay with no frills and simply want the basic ryokan onsen experience, this place is a decent place to start.

Lake view, Bed in Hotel Koryu

Hotel was in a superb location across the road from the lake and walking distance to town. Our room had a beautiful view of the mountains and the lake. Loved the Japanese style bedroom with tatami floor. Breakfast and diner were buffet style and lots of choice for anyone. Dinner included free wine/beer/high ball/ and sake. Lovely outdoor onsen with view of the lake and mountain. did not try the indoor onsen. Hotel also has free shuttle to Kawaguchiko station. But the best part was the staff who were very obliging and super helpful. A particular thank you to Jeremy, at reception, who exceeded our expectations and helped us book our bus ticket to Tokyo. He saved our day, because had we not booked it prior to going to the station, we would have missed out as the bus was completely full. Thank you Jeremy, you are a great ambassador to Hotel Koryu and they are lucky to have you.

Lobby or reception in Hotel Koryu

Public onsen was welcome after a long day. Sightseeing bus stop was close to the hotel. Good value if staying in basic twin room with futons. Nice buffet breakfast and dinner. Twin room with lake view with western style beds is huge and very nice. Staff very nice. Ask at reception for transport info, they are very helpful! Staff helped with bags when we arrived and free shuttle was amazingly welcome. We could use it to get to Kawaguchiko station during the stay too outside of the sightseeing bus timetable which starts late.

Amazing stay at Hotel Koryu. The whole experience was the best! Its possibly one of the nicest experiences I’ve had at a hotel. When we arrived we walked to the hotel from the station which was about 20mins and not a difficult walk. It was a lovely day which helped! The staff went out of their way to help us and allowed us to drop in our bags before check in so we could wander without them. We stayed in the standard Japanese style room and it was perfect. I requested a lake view which they granted us. It was so beautiful. We had dinner included which was lovely, lots to choose from including plenty of options for drinks. This was my first onsen experience and it did not disappoint. The private onsen was out of service and myself and my partner both have tattoos but they were happy for us to use the public onsens. We went after dinner and in the morning. Great way to start the day! The hotel give you little bags to pick up some Japanese snacks at reception which is a nice touch. Check out was easy and we used the shuttle bus to get back to Kawaguchiko station. The staff at reception even noticed we had lots of coins and changed them all into notes for us so we didn’t have heavy change to carry around.
